DIET, a word that is the staple to our language these days originated in the early 19th century. Diet simply means the sum of food consumed by a person or other organism. This often refers to the use of a specific nutrition for health or weight-management reasons (both are often associated).

It started back in the era of the Industrial Revolution. The Industrial Revolution brought an increase in wealth, in the production of goods and the standard of living. In India there are known to be 41 diet patterns that vary because of diverse eating habits and nature of people. Some regions rely on agricultural products while others have a dominant dairy and poultry industry.

If we look deep into science, every food source has three basic macro ingredients that are proteins, carbohydrates and fats. When we talk about the current scenario it is advised to eat a high protein diet that contains a moderate amount of carbohydrates(complex) and healthy fats. The consumption of these macro ingredients depends on the Basal Metabolic Rate(BMR) which is the rate of energy expenditure per unit time by endothermic animals at rest. These 3 components are adjusted to the goals of an individual and change in these leads the health experts and nutritionists to create a plethora of diet plans that are healthy and customized upon the individual’s body needs.

And as we know change is famously claimed to be the only constant in human life, so these diet plans need to be changed at intervals when the body adapts to a particular diet and stops showing the desired results which point is known as hitting plateau.
